Booker Teeeee? Yessireeee!

If you’re a Memphis soul fan (which is everyone I’m pretty sure..) here’s 2 records straight out of Soulsville South Memphis that you need to check out over the weekend.

First up is McLemore Ave. from 1970 on STAX

Booker T Jones was blown away by Abbey Road when it hit, so he convened the MG’s and cut this tribute.  Maybe one of the best “redo’s” of some Beatles music you’ll ever hear!

Check out Kerry’s take on it from the I Love Memphis Blog

Then there’s this little jewel..

Melting Pot from 1971 on STAX

Here’s BT & the MG’s finale record.  VERY hip and groovin!

Got some longer cuts like the title Melting Pot and my favorite Chicken Pox.

Take a listen!  Its incredible that this all came from South Memphis… BTW, you can still go see where all this was made. Go check out the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and tell ‘em Memphis sent ya!
